Deck of the Week for 12/15/2016

Deck of the Week | Dual Purpose Deck

This week we wanted to feature a deck that served multiple purposes for our homeowner. Not only did our client desire a space to extend his living environment outdoors; he needed a safe and accessible deck to accommodate the use of a scooter. Deck and Basement Company designed a mobility-friendly deck that allows the homeowner to freely maneuver his scooter and provides access to his backyard.

While accessibly ramps are not complex to build, the uneven landscape on this property led to challenges to get the slope of the ramp code compliant. Deck and Basement Company worked closely with Tyler Wortz Magnolia Landscape & Design Co. to get the grading correct to ensure the ramp met handicap ramp code regulations required by the city.

This deck used low maintenance AZEK decking and fascia. Custom-built railings include a unique element we call the “AZEK Drink Rail” featuring a 5 ½ inch decking board that connects to the railing. The flat surface accommodates beverages or other items; a feature clients enjoy especially for entertaining.

This was a special build for us. Not only did our client gain the access he needed, he now can enjoy the outdoors with family and friends without feeling like he was missing out, a freedom we believe everyone should have.
